  • Surface retarders are used to create exposed-aggregate concrete surfaces by means of both the positive (top side) and negative (within formwork) application methods. The retarder prevents a certain depth of the cement paste from setting on the surface of the concrete. This uppermost layer of the concrete matrix is then easily removed by pressure washing, exposing the aggregate within the concrete.
